4 Tech hacks and tools every music exec and manager need to know

The music industry’s relationship with tech is symbiotic. There are hundreds of tech companies dedicated to helping artists and their teams reach their goals. Whether that’s distributing music to various streaming platforms or just giving artists a platform to showcase their talents. There are several tech tools and hacks that can be utilized by indie acts and industry pros to break into the industry. Managers and aspiring execs will see the value they add to their team jump tremendously by taking some of the work out of the artist’s hands.

Below we have selected four tech tools and hacks that we believe every Indie should know about.

Tech Hacks 1: SEO (just the basics)

Search engine optimization or SEO sounds dry but it is a very helpful hack for those with a website. SEO is a method of gaining traffic to a website by obtaining high-rankings on search engines like google. Studies show that 65% of all Google clicks go to the top five results!

Utilizing SEO is admittedly tricky. That’s because the effectiveness of a particular strategy is dependent on the algorithm that Google uses to dictate a website’s placement in a particular search. This algorithm changes OFTEN so a tactic that worked a month ago might no longer be effective. However, there are some tricks that are a mainstay like keyword searches and building backlinks.

Tech Tools 2: WordPress and Google analytics

Fun, fun, FUN! WordPress is a free and open-source content management system. Or in other words, the simplest and most popular way to create a website. An Indie who can navigate this tool will not only be able to create a beautiful website but can make a little extra cash on the side by making them for other people.

Google Analytics is a service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. (See why we put them together?) A user can link this tool with their website and get detailed reports about the traffic coming to the page. This information is critical for effective marketing strategies.

Tech Tools 3: Triller

In the midst of the TikTok craze, I dare mention their rivals Triller. Triller describes itself as an entertainment platform built for creators. Users upload a song snippet and create short videos to them just like the competition. Why we put them on the list instead of their much more popular counterpart is because of the positioning opportunity it presents to users. While thousands are currently swarming to TikTok, Triller is wide open. The app has already partnered with several artists and is hosting a streaming festival amidst the COVID-19 crisis so they will be here when the dust settles. The TikTok surge won’t last forever and people will eventually find flaws and go to the competition. Users who can establish a large presence now on the app will be in perfect position when Triller gets its ‘BOOM.’

Tech Tools 4: Canva

Graphics are essential when it comes to selling and promoting music. The need is so great that the expense of constantly hiring a designer can be taxing. Canva is a very useful graphic design app that has tons of presets so that you can easily create graphics for social media, blog, or even an album cover.

Honorable mention:

The Later app is an awesome free tool that we have recently stumbled upon. It allows you to post to your social media accounts like Instagram at times that you can pre-set. It also has a useful feature that lets you add the first comment to a post as soon as it’s published.
