BIG 4X Mixtape Review
Stunna 4 Vegas FINALLY dropped his long-awaited BIG 4X Mixtape! Originally slated for release on April 4th (4/4/19). We got a video instead.
The month wait was well worth it for those who were waiting. For everybody else, this was a nice surprise. The 12 track project has a 30 minute run time graced with features from DaBaby, Offset, Lil Durk, Young Nudy, and NLE Choppa. If you don’t know already ‘The worlds hottest youngin’ is one of the dopest young MC’s coming up in the industry. On top of that, he is linked with possibly the hottest rapper on the rise not named Meg Thee Stallion, DaBaby. The Salisbury North Carolina native had a huge year in 2018. He went from being virtually unknown to one of the most requested interviews for Saycheese during SXSW and looks to keep the momentum going. At the time of this writing, Big 4X is number nine on Apple Music.
BIG 4X
The tape opens with a dark almost scary piano tone. The beat produced by ‘DeejayTrap’ and ‘I Got 20 On My Beat’ alone sets the tone for Stunna and the entire tape. He opens up by calling out rappers who don’t live what they rap.
“These niggas don’t rap what they livin’, but it sound good I admit it. Niggas can’t even come out in they city.”
He then boasts about “putting racks” on the heads of anyone who wants beef. Normal Stunna raps, but it doesn’t make it any less intriguing to hear. The way his voice carries and the conviction in which he says it will make anyone stop and listen.
‘Sticks’ is the second song and the first of the two DaBaby features. The beat is heavy but a little more playful than ‘Intro’ but he keeps his lyrics consistent. In the end, it is what you expect from a Stunna and DaBaby feature. His beat selection for the next three songs was very different for him. If you ever listened to any Stunna tape you know he prefers the darker instrumentals. If I had to guess, this was an attempt to make the tape more digestible for a wider audience. Also working with the animated Reel Goats you have to be a little light so the visuals aren’t miss matched. I can appreciate the change and it works well for the tape. 4th of July is the next feature with Offset making an appearance. It’s one of the standouts as both rappers kill it. Stunna had something to prove while Offset does what he normally does, it works I won’t complain.
100 or better with NLE Choppa was the song I was most excited about. Two young gangsta rappers on the come up is a dream come true sonically, however, ‘Durkio’ has the best feature with Lil Durk which was surprising for me. ‘Durkio’ is the last song and might be the best song on the entire tape. Ashley ft DaBaby and Hittin 4 are both close runner ups.
Solid, But Just a Little More
Overall the tape is solid. He does what he does best, which is talking young hot boy shit. I would have liked to see him stray a little more from the norm but knowing this is his introduction to the game I can understand the direction. I would’ve loved to hear Blacc Zacc and Fat Dave on a track, but that’s me. The tape is full of bangers that will rock through the spring/summer and is everything you expect from Stunna. I give it a B.
