Music, Comedy, and Monetization: How Know Kapp is using Riff to create an entirely new experience
What is Riff?
Riff: The Culture Media App is a voice and video chat app heavily steeped in music and the music industry. The app, intended for but not limited to artists, allows them to create a room and connect with fans at will. Riff is loaded with unique features that can not only help build community but allow artists to monetize how they see fit. A key point for artists who still only make pennies per stream.
Riff’s connection to the music industry
Along with partnering with artists such as 21 savage and Soulja Boy, Riff is heavily invested by Hip Hop major players. Quality Control Music, Top Dawg, and Empire are all invested in the company to a tune of $4 million. QC’s COO Kevin ‘Coach K’ Lee is set to join Riff’s Board of Directors giving the music industry adequate representation within the tech organization.
“Tech innovation and music go hand in hand and Riff is leading the new wave for apps,” – TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.
“It combines the best of everything we do on social media. It was a no-brainer investment for QC.” – QC COO Kelvin ‘Coach K’ Lee
Kapp Komedy Knight Exclusively on Riff
Jiwan Kapp, better known by his stage name Know Kapp has almost too many titles to list. Serial entrepreneur, talent coordinator for the upcoming Pure Comedy Laughs season 2, event coordinator, and of course one of our correspondents here at Thrive Indie.
Kapp along with media personality and influencer Dani Urbane have created Kapps Komedy Room. A live stream comedy show that features comedic talent from across the nation. The show also has an original playlist featuring only independent artists titled the M.I.A Tour Playlist. The list features artists such as Bily Pe$o, DJ Swale, Lillian Blanche, T. Walker, and more.
Dani Urbane, whom Kapp credits with introducing him to the app, acts as the official producer for the show as well as leading the charge in its marketing.
Kapp has seen real success early utilizing Riff and has only just begun. In its third week the room averages a fairly large audience, about 300 ‘in and out’ and about 80 staying in the room for the entirety of the show. While the room is free for now, Riffs ‘Gift’ feature has already earned him a profit. When asked about the app’s monetization capabilities Kapp says he is still figuring things out but sees tremendous potential for him.
“My experience on RIFF has been amazing! Shoutout to Dani Urbane the producer of Kapp Komedy Knight. She first introduced the app to me. Quickly afterwards we decided that a comedy night needed to take place on the app and we made it happen. As far as I know we are the only ones doing this which opens the gate for other comics to work on their craft virtually.”
Jiwan Kapp on Riff
What’s next
You can catch Kapp on Riff every Wednesday at 9 pm. When I asked Jiwan about the future he had this to say. “We’re just getting started. I believe in the growth and opportunities that Riff offers so much that I don’t expect my time on the app to slow down anytime soon. As matter of fact, I would like to announce the M.I.A. Tour Live VLOG exclusively on RIFF, giving you an exclusive look at the M.I.A. tour. Shoutout to Riff for giving opportunities to creatives to provide opportunities in the Riff world virtually.”
