Uplifting the Community with Food Music and Haircuts: The Urban Renaissance Presents the Wisdom and Words Festival
“The Wisdom and Words Community Festival is a chance for the youth to connect with the wisdom in the community.”
– Tevin Whiteside, CEO of The Urban Renaissance Culture LLC
The Urban Renaissance is bringing the festival to Greensboro, North Carolina Sunday, April 18th. The event will take place in the parking lot of Greensboro’s best breakfast spot, Summit Café (1050 Summit Ave 27405), owned by Nezzia Martin. Hosted by Jiwan Kapp and Ava Wit Da Flava. The festivities will last from 1 PM-6 PM and will host a number of activities for the community. These activities include; Prayer and words of wisdom by Pastor Deon Clark, a car wash fundraiser, free haircuts for kids (discounted for adults), a talented musical lineup by local artists, and much more. Free food will be offered as well during the event.
Attendees will need to bring their appetites, however. At 4 PM the ‘Grill Godz Ultimate Chef Cook Off’ begins with special guest judges deciding the winner.

What is The Urban Renaissance
Tevin Whiteside founded The Urban Renaissance Culture Enterprises (URC) to empower the community he grew up in. Barber, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Tevin created the brand to function economically, socially, and ecologically to redevelop urban areas into self-sufficient communities. The URC has partnered with organizations such as; Greensboro parks and rec, Prestige Barber College, Genesis Baptist Church, Punch 4 Pounds Kids boxing and tutoring, Voices of the struggle gang prevention, Guilford County Schools, juvenile prevention services, and many more to see their goals realized.
I asked Tevin what was next for the organization once the event concluded. He stated that they are planning an adult event every month, including a ‘Sip & Paint’ taking place in Charlotte next month. He also expressed plans to work with Guilford county to provide jobs to the youth.
The Urban Renaissance is currently looking for volunteers to mentor kids and to assist with upcoming events. Email [email protected] to find out how you can be of service to your community.
