Anella Herim’s Journey with Def Jam Recordings
Born on November 22, 2001, in Trinity, North Carolina, singer, songwriter, and rapper Anella Herim grew up in a musical environment.
Encouraged by his father, a worship leader in their local church, Anella started playing drums at the tender age of four.
As he entered high school, he joined the chorus and discovered the GarageBand app, leading him to record his music at home using his iPhone and headphones.
Unsatisfied with a traditional job, the young artist turned to performing at local bars and restaurants to pursue his passion and make a living.
In early 2020, Anella’s life took a turn when Malik Clark from Definitely Out Grinding Records (D.O.G Records) noticed his talent during a performance at Boxbar Arcade in Greensboro. By July,
Anella was signed to perform at the No Stress Fest in Winston-Salem, where he met DJ ESudd. They soon began working together, with DJ ESudd praising Anella as a “breath of fresh air” with soul-touching music and a fantastic personality.
Self-producing at least 90% of his music, Anella also collaborates with renowned producer D.A. I got That Dope.
He describes his music as relatable, pleasing, and sometimes indescribable, aiming to touch people’s hearts. In June 2022, Anella partnered with Def Jam Recordings and fully committed to his musical career.
Besides music, he enjoys spending time with friends—who play a role in his creative process—and traveling, especially when it involves performing for his fans.
With undeniable talent, an unwavering work ethic, and a robust support system, Anella Herim is poised to take the world by storm.
A Glimpse into “Country Road” – The Hip Hop Country Song Sensation
Empire Distribution’s Neo Soul virtuoso Thugod and Def Jam Records’ Pop Rap talent Anella Herim collaborate to create a mesmerizing Country Rap gem.
“Country Road,” the track’s title, explores the sense of desolation in a deteriorating world, where the protagonist attempts to contact his love interest, only to be greeted by silence.
The song’s veiled message resonates profoundly with its audience, subtly touching them on a deeper level.
Thugod’s Rise in the Empire Distribution and Neo Soul Scene
Neo Soul Down South Music Artist Thugod is a Hip Hop soul artist from the Dirty South.
Growing up in the Carolinas, he always had a passion for music with Soul elements because of his mom, who recently passed away a couple of years ago.
She was one of his biggest inspirations for his music. In the streets of Greensboro, he learned how to rap, creating his style, which transformed him into the Neo soul artist he is today, influenced by some of the best Southern Rappers like Lil Wayne, Outkast, and Rick Ross.
Some of his favorite Neo Soul artists are Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Frank Ocean, and Jill Scott. He was discovered by Waleed Coyote, who was his entry to empire distribution.
The Impact of Neo Soul on Southern Hip Hop
Neo soul (sometimes called progressive soul) is a genre of popular music.
Coined by music industry entrepreneur Kedar Massenburg, Neo Soul has significantly impacted Southern Hip Hop, Dirty South rap, Crunk, or Southern rap.
This sub-genre of American hip-hop music emerged in the Southern United States and solidified during the mid-1990s.
The gritty street-level aesthetic in southern hip-hop has been crucial in developing Neo Soul.
Neo-soul’s commercial and artistic achievements have often been compared to those of contemporary R&B.
Critics have accused Neo soul artists and producers of being too focused on replicating 1970s classic Soul and Funk recordings rather than furthering these genres’ evolution into modern times.
In contrast, others worry that the “neo” label devalues the fundamentals of the soul.
In blending the worlds of Neo Soul and Southern Hip Hop, Thugod and Anella Herim’s collaboration on “Country Road” transcends genres and creates a unique, heartfelt experience for listeners.
The fusion of their styles in this hip-hop country song showcases the versatility and potential for innovation within both genres.
Country Road is bound to capture hearts and leave a lasting impression on artists and music fans.
