Clout, The Future of the Industry and TheRealPrinceOFNC

As social norms continue to adjust because of the pandemic, independent artists are still going strong looking for opportunities to get their names out there. Engaging directly with fans via live-streaming and social media has proven effective for many acts. Recently I had a chance to speak with a young upcoming artist from the Carolinas. An artist whose message to his fans is a simple one.

“You’re not alone.”

This up and comer has already established a shocking stat line in a short period of time and looks to use his social media to establish a closer connection with his audience.

TheRealPrinceOfNC

TheRealPrinceofNC EP cover ‘Life’ available on all platforms

Chapel Hill native Harrison Farrington, also known by his stage name TheRealPrinceofNC appeared on the independent music scene about 2 years ago and has already generated an impressive resume. Though still fairly new to the game, he has already accumulated over 1 million streams worldwide across multiple platforms. A feat not many artists can boast at this stage of their career. He hasn’t let the numbers get to his head however, RealPrince has a humble and open presence about him. Though a member of the new school of hip hop he doesn’t fit into the stereotype of the generation.

Interview

How did you get started rapping, and how long have you been doing it?

“I used to always write Lil rhymes when I was in early high school, but never took it seriously until my 12th grade year of high school. I’ve been rapping for about 2 years now and already accumulated over 1 million streams worldwide.”

What’s one thing that u want your fans to know about you?

“One thing I want my fan to know about me is I’m open and supportive to everyone and if they are going through any problems they are not alone. They can always shoot me a message on Instagram so they won’t ever feel lonely.”

What makes your story unique?

“My story is unique because everything I say in my songs is 100% truth. I don’t cap in my raps and songs. I have a different background story from everyone. I don’t just rap to say I’m a “rapper”. I consider myself a musician anyway.”

Who inspires TheRealPrinceOfNC musically?

“Meek Mill inspires me musically because he always been a great role model. Help me get through shit and helps me keep pushing and not giving up. The road to success is not easy, nor short.”

What is some advice you would give other artists from your area who are just starting?

” Advice I’d give to other artists is that you have to spend money to make money. Also, consistency is the key to stay relevant .”

Why do you think people should listen to your music?

“People should listen to my music because they can relate to it and they can vibe in any mood they are in depending on the song. I can help with heartbreaks, anger, and if people just wanna party. “

How important is clout for a rising artist?

Clout is really important for artists because its a quick easy way to blow. I won’t do nothing outrageous for clout though. I seen a lot of crazy shit, females sucking cucumbers, guys pouring bleach in they eyes and all kind of crazy shit for clout. Depending on if your music is good, the clout could be long-lasting while others, it could be a little 15-minute fame.”

With the COVID-19 how important will new tech be for the future of the music industry?

“New tech for the future is extremely important because everything is going to be virtually done because shit closing. Ain’t no clubs, parties, concerts, strip clubs, etc .  Luckily, I know how to promote via social media but a lot of artists have to get used to it for the next year.”

Conclusion

I believe Mr. Farrington has a bright future in this industry. His hard work, humility, and talent have already yielded him unprecedented success. What do you think? If you like what he had to say check out his latest EP ‘Life’ currently streaming on all platforms.
