I originally posted this not even a year ago and already so much has changed. To start DaBaby is no longer a promising up and comer but a bonafide star. It would be hard NOT to find a media outlet who hasn’t covered him. From hit records to hitting SEVERAL people in the face DaBaby has garnered and maintained the attention of the world.

In his home state, his ascension is has been historic. Though his music, marketing prowess, and reputation in the streets are all part of why he is one of the industries top dogs,  South Coast Music Group (SCMG) played a huge part in his success.

SCMG

SCMG, an independent label based in Charlotte, is the team behind DaBabys unprecedented success and they have been on the move since producing a bonafide star. The  label is headed by the former Epic Records national promotions executive Arnold Taylor, Daud “King” Carter, and Craig Martin. The label breaks the norm by prioritizing a more traditional approach to breaking music. Utilizing guerilla marketing, SCMG is able to help artists cultivate a pure fan base that eventually translates to ticket sales and streams.

Taylors history with Epic has equipped him with the industry knowledge and connections to help any artist position themselves for success.

A year ago SCMG  signed  Blacc Zacc out of Columbia, SC who, much like DaBaby, had been making waves in the region for years. On his own Blacc Zacc has already gained notoriety in the industry landing features from Lil Baby, Gunna and others. Now it seems SCMG wants to build an artist from the ground up.

Zacc is not the only artist on the label’s radar. Recently Raleigh NC up and comer Toosii has been linked with the label. An IG post on Taylor’s page leads to a brief exchange between Toosii and Taylor leaving room for speculation. – Exert from the original post

Toosii signed to the label shortly after this article was originally published. In the months since his song ‘Red Lights‘  and mixtape ‘My Shit Now‘ has gained serious steam. However, we will have to wait until the release of his project ‘Platinum Heart’ on February 7th to see if he is ready for the majors.

BIG MALI

The newest addition to the SCMG family tree is Big Mali. Her aggressive lyrics and quick flow create an intriguing sound that took hold around summer 2019. She hasn’t been in the game that long but in North Carolina, she is regarded as one of the top female acts in the state. However, we are still waiting on a project from the hot-spitta as she has yet to announce one. Until then check out her latest track ‘First Lady’ and see how she stacks up.
