I recently had the pleasure of interviewing QueenLeft, an independent female rapper hailing from Rochester, NY. With a passion for music and a unique blend of influences, QueenLeft has been making her mark in the music industry since 2017. Here’s what she had to say about her journey and her latest projects:

QueenLeft Interview

1. Where are you from and how long have you been doing music?

“I’m from Rochester, NY, and I’ve been doing music since 2017 in terms of dropping projects. However, I’ve been creating and developing my artistry and skills since I was 15.”

2. What inspired you to get started and who are your musical influences?

“I’ve always loved music, and watching MTV, BET, and VH1 helped me express my love for music and dance even more. I also come from a musical family, which reinforced my passion. My biggest musical influences are Lisa Left Eye Lopes, 2Pac, Janet Jackson, Nas, Erykah Badu, Nas, and Michael Jackson. They were all innovative, stayed true to their artistry, and were incredibly successful.”

3. How would you describe your journey as an artist so far?

“My journey has been a learning one, filled with trials and errors. I’ve learned a lot about what to do and what not to do as I’ve gone along. My life experiences have also played a significant role in shaping my identity and sound as an artist. They’ve made my music more vulnerable and introspective, and I now have a clear vision of what I want to convey through my music to the world.”

4. Tell me about your latest project/single.

“I’ve been working on a project I call ‘Soulfilled Soliloquies,’ where I rap 16 bars over a beat and post it online. This year’s version is dedicated to the ’50 Years Of Hip-Hop.’ I’m taking some of my favorite records that helped shape the landscape of the art form and creating my versions as a tribute to the artists I’ve chosen. The release starts on September 8th.”

Conclusion

5. What’s next for you?

“I’m currently working on completing my EP called ‘Phoenix Rizing,’ which will be released early next year. It’s a project all about self-reflection, self-acceptance, and authenticity. I want to continue performing and expanding in the music world.”

6. What advice would you give to an independent artist just getting started?

“The advice I’d give to independent artists is to continue investing in yourself. Don’t be afraid to share your music as widely as possible. Discipline, dedication, and consistency will get you where you want to go. Stay true to your spirit and art, and don’t follow the crowd. Unapologetically stand out and ensure your business is in order – from licensing and registering songs to having written agreements and ownership over your creations before sharing and releasing them.”

QueenLeft’s dedication to her craft and her commitment to authenticity are evident in her journey and upcoming projects. Keep an eye out for her “Soulfilled Soliloquies” tribute series and her EP “Phoenix Rizing” in the coming months as she continues to make her mark in the music industry.
