SXSW 2022: Chophouze showcase recap

Its been three years since the last real (in-person) SXSW thanks to the pandemic. As expected, the turnout wasn’t as big as years previous, especially with the Omicron variant making its rounds before the festivities. However, the show still went on. Artists and industry professionals from across the globe made their way to Austin, Texas to experience the event. We at Thrive Indie knew we could not miss the first SXSW in three years.

This year Tonyia “T-dub” Cook, entrepreneur, event promoter, and influencer accompanied the illustrious Chophouze studios to Austin, Texas to represent Thrive Indie during their artist showcase. As well as helping Chophouze coordinate the event, she secured several interviews with artists and producers including Bianca B-Lo, Big Papito, Young Dot, and C-Kent.

SXSW interviews

Big Papito

Big Papito is a producer hailing from College Park, Georgia who has already made his presence felt in the industry. Along with being the official producer for 2chainz, he has worked with several other notable stars such as; Trouble, Jeezy, Sleepy Rose, and more. He took a second to talk with T-dub during the Chophouze showcase, speaking on how he got started and what advice he would give to other producers looking to get started.

Bianca BLo is an upcoming independent Latina vocalist and Austin, Texas native. This was her first SXSW! Her first official music video ‘True Love’ dropped in April 2020 on Youtube, however, her musical journey can be traced back to October 2019. Diagnosed with Leukemia as a small child, her challenges with the disease helped her to find her passion for music. In her interview, she speaks about the importance of not being afraid to be different in a congested industry.

SXSW Write-Ups

We reached out to these last two artists after the festivities. Both performers killed the stage so we had to lock-in. We asked both artists via social media;

Where are you from and how long have you been making music?

How was your experience at the Chophouze showcase?

What projects/singles do you have for the people?

What advice would you give artists just starting?
