The movement making Waves in the Carolina music scene

Historically, aspiring to be a prominent music artist in North Carolina was pretty unheard of. That’s because until very recently North Carolina hadn’t produced a true homegrown artist, that could make it to the big leagues while in North Carolina. Most artists from the area move to New York, LA, or Atlanta, where the markets were prime for them. That is part of the reason we created Thrive Indie. Today, however, there is a movement helping to put NC on the map. It’s called Carolina Waves.

Carolina Waves

Carolina Waves is a platform used to promote independent artists coming out of North Carolina. Utilizing open mics, showcases, festivals, and radio to promote talent. Carolina Waves has become the go-to platform for indie talent.

Carolina Waves was founded by media personality and radio Host, Miriam Tolbert aka Mir.I.am. I first heard of her from an artist in Raliegh, who thought I would be interested in what she was doing. I followed her on social media and was introduced to Carolina Waves. She has hosted several weekly events in Raliegh and surrounding areas. Often linking with the likes of DJ Wade Banner, DJ Chuck T, and DJ E. Sudd and other Carolina greats.
